AC Tips for Florida Home Owners

The following ac tips below will help you to get the most out of your energy savings and efficiencies out of your air conditioning and heating systems during this amazing time of the year.
Time to Change that Thermostat!
The clocks have moved back an hour to standard time. When that occurs, it is the best indicator that it is time to change the temperature settings on your thermostat. With most nights staying around the mid 70’s, this is a great time to open those windows and adjust your home temperature based on your comfort and needs.
It’s rare but yes do run your heat and expect that initial burnt smell.
It’s extremely common for most home owners to become a little alarmed the first time they turn on the heat for their centralized ac unit and a burnt smell begins to circulate throughout the house. This is okay! That smell is simply dust that has found a resting place on top of the heating coils and elements. The smell usually goes away very quickly. If your heating unit does not come on, you can easily schedule an appointment for one of our licensed and trained ac technicians
Setting the air flow direction of your ceiling fans based on the time of year.
Believe it or not, there is a proper air flow setting that you should adjust your ceiling fans to. This is solely based on the time of the year and the outside temperature. During the summer and hotter months, the air flow should be set to a clockwise spin, which will push the cooler air down.
During the cooler fall and winter months, the proper air flow setting needs to be adjusted to counter-clockwise, which will allow the heat to be drawn up towards the ceiling and then distributed throughout the room. Both settings will help to run your AC as efficiently as possible.
Don’t forget to clean or replace your ac filters.
As you may already know, regardless of the time of year, your air conditioner filter needs to be cleaned or replaced at least once a month. By doing this on a regular schedule you will not only keep your ac running a lot more efficient, but you will also help to keep your indoor air quality at its highest. In the end this means cleaner air and less allergies and sinus problems.
